01

VALVETRAIN & COVERS

Rockers, lifters and covers

Rocker arm bolts

Base circle
22 lb-ft

Torque each rocker only after confirming its lifter is on the camshaft base circle.

Base-circle method →

Valve cover bolts

In sequence
88 lb-in

Tighten in the specified rocker-cover sequence.

Valley cover bolts

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Verify aftermarket AFM-delete cover instructions when a replacement cover is used.

Valve lifter guide bolts

4 fasteners
106 lb-in

Confirm each guide is fully seated over its lifters before tightening.

Valve lifter oil manifold bolts

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Factory oil-manifold hardware only.

Valve lifter oil manifold filter plug

OEM hardware
22 lb-ft

Factory filter-plug specification.

CAMSHAFT & TIMING

Camshaft and timing hardware

Camshaft retainer plate bolts

TORX-head bolts
11 lb-ft

Seat the retainer plate evenly; verify any threadlocker requirement for the fastener being used.

Camshaft actuator / phaser bolt - Gen V

TTY · Replace
48 lb-ft + 90°
FASTENER / PART NUMBERGM 12734067 · supersedes 12681018

2014-2018 L83/L86 and early LT1/LT4. Do not reuse or substitute the later Gen V+ bolt.

Camshaft actuator / phaser bolt - Gen V+

Different bolt
NOT FOR L83 / L86
FASTENER / PART NUMBERGM 12746597 · supersedes 12697047

Later L82/L84/L87/L8T/LT2 applications use a different bolt. It is shown only to prevent a parts-counter mix-up.

Camshaft actuator magnet bolts

OEM hardware
88 lb-in

The small fasteners retaining the actuator magnet to the front cover.

Timing chain tensioner bolts

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Confirm the tensioner is seated and released correctly before rotating the engine.

Camshaft position sensor bolt

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Camshaft position sensor retaining bolt.

Camshaft sensor harness bolt

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Harness retaining bolt, not the sensor itself.

HEADS & ROTATING ASSEMBLY

Cylinder heads and bottom end

Cylinder head bolts - standard bolts

TTY · Replace
59 lb-ft + 90° + 60°
FASTENER / PART NUMBERGM 11546959 · M12x1.75x134 · quantity 19

19 required per engine. Tighten in sequence; the forward internal-hex bolt on the left head has a different final angle.

Cylinder head bolt - forward LH internal hex

TTY · Replace
59 lb-ft + 90° + 40°
FASTENER / PART NUMBERGM 11611976 · M12x1.75x102 · quantity 1

One required per engine: forwardmost fastener on the driver-side cylinder head.

ARP head studs

Aftermarket hardware
FOLLOW KIT INSTRUCTIONS

Do not use the OEM head-bolt procedure. Torque depends on the exact ARP kit, lubricant and instructions supplied with it.

Connecting rod bolts

TTY · Replace
15 lb-ft + 85°

Factory connecting-rod fasteners only.

Main cap inner bolts

TTY · In sequence
15 lb-ft + 110°

Complete the inner and outer fasteners in sequence before the side bolts.

Main cap outer bolts

TTY · In sequence
15 lb-ft + 80°

Complete in the specified main-cap sequence.

Main cap side bolts

TTY · Last pass
22 lb-ft + 60°

Tighten only after the inner and outer main-cap fasteners are complete.

Crankshaft oil deflector bolts

OEM hardware
88 lb-in

Factory windage/oil-deflector hardware.

04

COVERS & OIL SYSTEM

Front cover, rear housing and oil pan

Oil pump-to-block bolts

Alignment required
18 lb-ft

Center the pump with the correct alignment method before final torque.

Front cover bolts

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Position the cover correctly before final torque.

Rear oil-seal housing bolts

OEM hardware
18 lb-ft

Crankshaft rear oil-seal housing to block.

Oil pan-to-block and front-cover bolts

Inside-out sequence
18 lb-ft

Tighten the main upper-pan fasteners working from the inside outward.

The Fel-Pro service kit includes the cooler-line gasket, oil-pump pickup seal and related service seals. GM's factory-style procedure uses gray RTV instead of a formed pan gasket.

Oil pan-to-rear-housing bolts

OEM hardware
106 lb-in

Rear cross bolts; do not confuse inch-pounds with foot-pounds.

Lower-to-upper oil pan bolts

OEM hardware
88 lb-in

Lower pan perimeter fasteners.

Oil pan cover bolts

OEM hardware
88 lb-in

Factory oil-pan service cover fasteners.
